Work Zone Traffic Control

Work zone safety is of paramount importance at TQC. TQC staff includes certified Traffic Control Coordinators responsible for both the implementation and review of work zones. TQC operates within work zones daily, as our field staff and technicians deploy traffic data collection equipment. TQC Staff has years of experience working within work zones, monitoring traffic conditions within work zones, and supporting the analysis/design of temporary traffic control.

TQC understands the application of successful MPT/MOT plans requires consideration to detour plans, sidewalk closures, and pedestrian detours. The application of supplemental software, such as FHWA Quickzone, is considered as needed. TQCs experience reviewing and analyzing maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) plans, work zone operations and temporary traffic control includes projects for the PANYNJ (George Washington Bridge), NYCDOT (Belt Parkway) and NJDOT.

Project Specific Experience: The George Washington Bridge (GWB) is the busiest motor vehicle bridge in the world and a critical link in the NY Metro area transportation network. The PANYNJ initiated a project to create a comprehensive traffic model of the facility, inclusive to approach roadways on both sides of the Hudson River. The project included the development of historical traffic database and traffic simulation model specifically to identify feasible traffic staging, lane closures and durations for implementing design Maintenance and Protection of Traffic to complete the necessary construction work. TQC staff documented the potential traffic impacts associated with the proposed bridge improvements, as well as assess conceptual improvements to mitigate areas of need and balance the impacts to traffic in the surrounding network.
